Abstract

ABSTRACT
The Biodiversity of Fish In Squaq Balimbing and Ketambe Gunung Leuser National
Park, Sumatera. Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) is one of the biggest national park in
Indonesia which is the habitat of various flora-fauna. GLNP is a conservation area in
Sumatera island that lies in the two province, North Sumatera Province and Nanggroe Aceh
Darussalam Province. Little has reported about fishes inhabiting inland waters of Aceh
province and Sumatera Utara province, because The Fisheries Service of both province and
The University of Syah Kuala and The University of Sumatera Utara are more interested in
conducting research on marine fish.
Ichthyofauna research was conducted at the two Research Stations of Gunung Leuser
National Park, i.e Suaq Balimbing and Ketambe Research Station. Research activity at Suaq
- Balimbing RS which is located in South Aceh Regency was conducted in 1997, while
research activity in Ketambe RS which is located in South East Aceh Regency was conducted
in 1998. The research activity successfully collected 64 fish species which is belong to 36
familia. There were two endemik species, one of them was protected species, six species were
undescribe ones and has described as new species, besides of those there are several species
which are assummed as undescribe species and still being examined.
